Bnai Mitzvah

At JFX we feel that Bnai Mitzvah are a priceless opportunity to connect kids with Judaism in their own way. We don't believe every bar or bat mitzvah should be celebrated in the same way, because each child is different, and what pulls them to their Jewish identity will be unique and different. We want to tap into that pull, to help kids stay connected and affiliated through adolescence and beyond.

The Bnai Mitzvah program with JFX creates an environment that will inspire your child, broaden the lines of communication between you and your child, and make this special occasion an enjoyable and truly definitive landmark in their lives. Our Bnai Mitzvah mentors create bonds that will stay with your kids throughout the teenage years.

"We cannot thank Rabbi Koval, Rabbi Helman and Ruchi Koval enough for making our son Alex's Bar Mitzvah the warmest, most beautiful and inspiring service we could have imagined. The whole weekend from Kiddush to Havdalah blew away our expectations and our friends and family are still talking about it simply amazing!"

"Before JFX, going to Hebrew school every time was torture. Coming to JFX was the best Jewish educational decision my parents decided for us. My only regret about going to JFX is that we didn't go earlier. Thanks to Rabbi Koval and Rabbi Helman, I was very prepared for my bar mitzvah, which ended up being the best day of my life. They found a way to make all of my bar mitzvah studies easier and a lot of fun. I especially loved all of my basketball games with Rabbi Helman!"

"JFX has been such a wonderful and loving environment for me. My teachers in previous years have been kind and supporting. We did many hands-on projects to learn about history and what being Jewish means to us. One of my favorite projects was making a Seder plate for my family while we learned the purpose of the items we put on the plate. The Bat Mitzvah classes were especially enriching  for me. As we learned in class about Torah and women’s valued roles in our community and our families, we grew closer as a group, and we laughed a lot too. Classes at the JFX office were always fun, but Morah Zelda would also take us to really interesting places like Ellie’s bakery, and she even welcomed us into her house to make challah together and have mini-Shabbatons. All of this prepared me for a very special Bat Mitzvah celebration that Rabbi Koval guided and led for my family and friends. It was a very special Havdalah ceremony, where our Cantor AJ sang and another member of our community, Dan Fremont, played guitar, and I contributed too with my violin. I will treasure the experience always."
